GENERAL PURPOSE: Coordinates and provides guided tours of Fort Concho; delivers historic presentations at various venues within the community; cleans, maintains, and prepares Fort Concho facilities for use by visitors; manages gift shop and other sales; answers varied public inquiries in person and on phone; and performs other related duties as assigned.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Greets visitors and volunteers; responds to inquiries regarding Fort Concho facilities, services, programs, events, and/or other museum matters. Maintains accurate cash, attendance, and other records as required. Organizes and conducts guided historic site tours of Fort Concho and/or other historical forts; performs basic historical research. Educates the public and provides talks regarding the history of Fort Concho and the military in the late nineteenth century. May deliver history presentations and historic talks at schools, churches, rest homes, places of employment, and/or other venues. Provides assistance in opening and managing site's Visitor Center facilities; turns on computers and lights; opens/closes other display buildings, counts the cash register. Processes incoming and outgoing mail; prepares promotional materials for mailing. Prepares Fort Concho buildings and exhibit areas for public tours; sets up tables and chairs. Assists in cleaning and maintaining the Museum's facilities, equipment, and grounds; performs dusting; removes litter; identifies and reports maintenance requirements. Manages gift shop, stocks and cleans shelves as necessary. Performs other related duties as assigned. May wear period uniform or clothing for interpretation and programs. Hours: Maximum of 30 hours, will include weekends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent; and one-year museum guide or equivalent experience, preferably in a history or cultural institution environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Licenses or Certifications: Must possess a valid driver license with a good driving record. Required Knowledge of: Museum operations and services. Fort Concho and American frontier history. Facilities relative to historic site operations. Customer service standards and protocol. Required Skill in: Organizing and conducting historical tours of Fort Concho. Delivering history presentations and historic talks to the public. Preparing Fort Concho buildings and exhibit areas for visitors. Responding to public inquiries and representing Fort Concho to guests. Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other staff, guests, community organizations, outside agencies, and the general public. Accuracy in counting and compiling cash and other records. Physical Demands / Work Environment: Work is performed in and around museum facilities and grounds. Subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of objects up to 30 pounds. Exposure to variable weather conditions, noise of blank firing of weaponry, insects, and wildlife; occasional exposure to machinery with moving parts is involved.
